DEATH BY CHOCOLATE
THE ULTIMATE DESSERT TO DIE FOR
The origin of the ultimate chocolate dessert dates back to twenty years ago, when Chef Marcel Desaulniers, then owner of the Trellis Restaurant, created one of the best-known chocolate masterpieces… which he declared “Death by Chocolate”. This widely popular dessert has had incredible recognition and interest, and was ultimately the recipient of a James Beard Foundation award in 1993. When Chef Everett purchased the Trellis Restaurant in 2009, he decided to pay respect to the already mouth-watering dessert by highlighting it on the menu where the Trellis restaurant will always be known as the home of “Death by Chocolate”.
“Death by Chocolate” is a three day endeavor consisting of a seven layer chocolate torte. The decadence begins with layers of moist chocolate cake, dark chocolate ganache, crunchy chocolate meringue, and an airy chocolate mousse. The cake is then coated in a glaze of dark chocolate and served on a pool of chocolate sauce with house-made milk chocolate ice cream, topped with a hand rolled white chocolate truffle, and finally dusted with white chocolate powder.
